Traditional print processes inspire new £2 coin

Filed under: Online Printing,Opinion,What You Say — FilePrint @ 1:58 pm

The Royal Mint has rolled out a new £2 coin to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible.

Featuring the quote “In the beginning was the Word”, from John 1.1, the new design demonstrates the original technology behind the printing press with the tactile text appearing both reversed to represent the printing block, and recessed to represent the printed text.

The limited edition coin, which was designed by London-based DesignStudio, is available now from the Royal Mint in a base metal collector version. Additional collector versions will be struck in silver and gold next year, with general circulation of the coin taking place later in 2011.

The original printing of the authorised version of the King James bible was published by Robert Barker, the King’s Printer, in 1611.

Printing Industries of America has introduced an online resource to help printers and packaging houses achieve an environmentally-responsible performance.

Filed under: Online Printing — FilePrint @ 1:34 pm

The Green Guide for Graphic Communications: Growing and Profiting through Sustainability, includes an environmental self-assessment tool for printing companies.

The tool enables a printing facility to assess its environmental performance across a range of criteria so that companies can establish a niche position in the market and communicate environmental credentials to prospects, customers and other stakeholders.

The guide provides information, guidance and resources that can help printers to make appropriate and credible environmental claims and reach a better understanding of third-party certification and eco-labels, the company said.
